The government said it has found the bodies of seven French monks kidnapped two months ago by the Armed Islamic Group, or GIA. The GIA said in a statement last week that it had cut the monks' throats after Paris refused to negotiate a prisoner release. Algeria's Interior Ministry, in a brief statement carried by the official APS news agency, said the monks' bodies were discovered several miles from the town of Medea, an Islamist stronghold 45 miles southwest of Algiers.
