ALBUM REVIEWS / POP

June 29, 1996|SANDY MASUO

*** Voice of the Beehive, "Sex and Misery," Discovery. Voice of the Beehive's first effort in five years sounds more like love and bliss. The Belland sisters' bright, ABBA-esque harmonies are swathed in a mixture of upbeat guitars, strings and keyboards that recalls early Eurythmics, the Bangles and Paul Young. But as heavily as these buoyant tunes lean on '80s pop, they never completely lapse into retro mode.

Albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good) and four stars (excellent).
