July Planting List

July 06, 1996

Giving plants a quick drink now and then is OK on hot days, but it's no substitute for deep irrigation. Regular harvesting is also important. If you don't pick vegetables often enough, plants can go to seed and quit producing.

Although this month is too hot for starting most plants, there are a few that do well in steamy weather, such as the following:

*

FLOWERS

Ageratum

Bedding begonia

Celosia

Coleus

Dahlia

Dianthus

Gazania

Lobelia

Marigold

Petunia

Salvia

Sunflower

Vinca rosea

Zinnia

*

VEGETABLES and herbs

Beans

Beets

Carrots

Corn

Cucumber

Eggplant

Herbs

Okra

Onion

Pepper

Pumpkin

Squash

Tomato

*

TREES/SHRUBS/VINES

Banana

Cacti

Euphorbia

Hibiscus

Palm

Papaya
