U.S. Women Only American Winners

The U.S. team of Wei Wang and Lily Yip played the first match of the Games and was victorious over Emily Noor and Huberta Vriesekoop of the Netherlands, 21-18, 11-21, 21-11.

Wang, from Pasadena, and Yip, from Metuchen, N.J., were the only American winners on the first day of eliminations in doubles.

The only U.S. men's entry, Jim Butler of Augusta, Ga., and Todd Sweeris of Potomac, Md., lost in straight sets, 21-14, 21-12, to Andrey Mazunov and Dmitriy Mazunov of Russia.
