Stork Shop Delivers on Low-Priced Kids' Stuff

High-quality items range from infants' clothing to strollers and high chairs, selling for up to 50% off.

For the past 18 years, I've been leading folks to one of Los Angeles' best sources for infant's and children's paraphernalia, the Stork Shop, where Mort and Miriam Silas have been doing business in the same location since 1970. They've been in the children's apparel business for over 50 years.

The deals here are always impressive. If you were to drop by today, here's a sampling of what you would find: Infant outfits of 100% cotton by Creme de la Creme that retail for $25 to $40 at many stores are on special for $9.95. A Prego high chair that sells at most stores for $139.95 sells for $99.95. If you're looking for a battery-operated swing that generally retails for $79.95, the Stork Shop prices them at $49.95.

If you haven't checked the tags on strollers lately, you're in for sticker shock, and if you're already shocked by the news that twins are on the way, here's a break: The Aprica Gemini twin stroller that sells for a whopping $350 may be purchased at the Stork Shop for $199.95.

Lest you think the merchandise here is just for infants, there's an enormous inventory of little girl party dresses, with two of the hottest labels, Sylvia White and Dorisa, selling at prices about 50% off. A dress that sells at a specialty store for $100 is $54.95 here. Sizes range from 2 to 16.

When the occasion calls for little boys to dress up, there are suits by Rydal selling for about 40% below retail. Estimate that you'll pay $45 for sizes 4 to 6, $55 for sizes 8 to 16. Uniform pants and shirts for the parochial schools are 30% off as are Carters baby layette items.

The Stork Shop, 1868 S. La Cienega Blvd., Los Angeles. (310) 839-2403. Hours: 9:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
