Bang Soo-hyn of South Korea needed only 10 minutes to beat Nigeria's Obigeli Olorunsola, 11-0, 11-0, and advance to the round of 16 in women's singles.

Bang will face Yasuko Mizui of Japan, a 11-4, 11-6 winner over Santi Wibowo of Switzerland.

Defending champion Susi Susanti of Indonesia defeated Doris Piche of Canada, 11-1, 11-3, and top-seeded Ye Zhaoying of China defeated Chan Chia Fong of Malaysia, 11-4, 11-1.

In men's singles, top-seeded Joko Suprianto of Indonesia defeated Jens Olsson of Sweden, 15-11, 15-12, and No. 3 Dong Jiong of China defeated Thomas Stuer-Lauridsen of Denmark, 15-6, 18-15.
