ATLANTA 1996 OLYMPICS | Spotlight

Headline News

A look at the day that was and at what lies ahead at the Summer Games

July 30, 1996|MIKE DOWNEY

Here are my gold, silver and bronze awards to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution newspaper, in the Worst Headline of the Olympics event:

Gold--"4 Killed as Blast Rips Through Olympic Crowd." (Yes, and Dewey beats Truman. One killed, one heart attack victim.)

Silver--"Olympic Bombing, Team's Losing Skid a Real Bummer." (Worth repeating, this is the hilarious Chipper Jones guest column headline.)

Bronze--"Feet Don't Fail Me Now." (Monday's eye-grabber, on an Ethiopian woman winning the marathon.)

Still a week left in this competition.
