Scottish marathon runner Liz McColgan didn't get a bug, the bug got her.

The highly regarded distance runner was bitten by an insect Friday and her ankle swelled dramatically. McColgan insisted on running in Sunday's marathon but said she wanted to quit but thought better of it.

"I was going to stop at 19 miles," she said. "But I thought by the time it would take for the transportation bus to get to me, I might as well carry on to the stadium."

McColgan finished 16th in 2 hours 34 minutes 30 seconds.
