Out Of Bounds

A look at the day that was and at what lies ahead at the Summer Games

The Brazilian soccer team learned the meaning of "water hazard" when it set up a practice session on the Great Waters golf course in Eatonton, Ga., earlier this week.

Tired of traveling 40 miles to practice in Athens, the team chose the golf course adjacent to the cottages where they are housed. They went to the pro shop and borrowed four yardage markers that became two goals on the 18th fairway.

"It was pretty neat," said Chan Freeman, 25, an assistant golf pro at Great Waters. "You could tell they play a lot of soccer."

Everything was going fine until one of the balls bounced off into Lake Oconee, which parallels one fairway.

Maybe the Brazilians should have taken things a bit more seriously. They were upset by Nigeria in the semifinals, 4-3.
