'Calendar Girl'

August 04, 1996|Michael Wilmington

The three bonded buddies in this 1993 release are star-struck youngsters steeped in show-biz culture. They meet at 9 at a Howdy Doody look-alike contest and jointly falling in love with Marilyn Monroe--and her famous nude calendar--at 12. The trio (Jason Priestly, Jerry O'Connell, and Gabriel Olds, pictured from left), are from small-town Nevada loose in the big city of L.A. in search of a date with their dreamgirl, Marilyn. When they decide to try to consummate their fantasy, it's the summer after high school--in 1962, the year before J.F.K.'s assassination and the Beatles, a period often described as America's "End of Innocence" (Fox Monday at 8 p.m.).
