Forum Boxing at Pond Moved to Aug. 26

August 07, 1996

Forum Boxing Inc. has moved its Aug. 19 show at the Pond of Anaheim to Aug. 26 partly because of a Jet Ski event near the Pond that weekend.

The card will be headlined by a 12-round bout between Los Angeles' Maikito Martinez (34-10-1, 27 knockouts) and St. Louis' Arthur Johnson (12-3, seven knockouts) for Martinez's North American Boxing Federation flyweight title. Johnson, trained by Angelo Dundee, has fought twice for the world flyweight title.

In another 12-rounder, Jorge Elicer Julio of Colombia (32-1, 24 knockouts) will face Bulgarian Michael Gallati for Julio's North American Boxing Organization featherweight title.

Gordon's Panthers, based in Orange County, won their 10th national title in the past 15 years with the Amateur Softball Assn.'s 18/Under Gold Division championship last weekend in Stockton.

Amanda Freed (Pacifica High) defeated Sylmar, 2-0, on a two-hitter in the title game. The Panthers went through the 36-team tournament undefeated in six games, outscoring their opponents, 26-4.

The Panthers, coached by Larry Mays, have six other players with county connections: Shealee Dunavan, Kelsey Kollen, Lisa Tully and Robin Walker of Mater Dei, Samantha Kimura of El Dorado and Jenny Topping of La Habra.
