'La Discrete'

August 18, 1996|Michael Wilmington

In this 1992 release the young French writer-director Christian Vincent lays bare a seduction, body and soul. He adopts a veneer of sang-froid, tricks us into observing a seduction of Judith Henry (pictured), as if it were a game. Then he forces us, and Antoine (Fabrice Luchini), to face the consequences. The movie has a delightful lucidity and moral balance. (Bravo Sunday at 6:05 p.m. and midnight; Monday at 10:45 a.m.).
