Philly's Stake in Discounts

Philadelphia, "the city of brotherly love," has created the Mature Traveler Discounts brochure that lists dozens of discounts for those over 50. Included in the handy booklet are a list of discounts available at 20 restaurants, 10 theaters and concert halls, 25 resorts and hotels, several car rental firms and 29 attractions such as museums, libraries, art galleries and botanical gardens. Travelers using the booklet may be requested to furnish proof of age when contacting participating businesses. An opportunity for a barge trip through the canals of France will be available from Oct. 9 to 29 when Lanakai cruises will extend a 15% discount to travelers 50 and older. Price includes modified half-board with a welcome-aboard dinner plus breakfasts and lunches daily for the remainder of the week. Rates range from $1,750 to $2,350 per person per week before the discount. The price also includes all beverages consumed on board. The Lanakai is just under 100 feet long, accommodates six passengers in three cabins with private baths and windows plus a dining salon. It also carries six mountain bikes for passengers. Gadabout Tours, which specializes in tours for seniors, has a selection of fall and winter tours available. Tour prices include all sightseeing admissions, most meals, first class hotels. Prices quoted are per person on a double-occupancy basis.

* Copper Canyon by motor coach and rail--11 days, departs Sept. 19. Tour of the canyons in Northwestern Mexico that includes stops in the towns of Alamo, Hermosillo, Creel and Chihuahua. Fourteen meals with a margarita reception and farewell dinner are included. Price: $1,595 with air fare.

* Christmas in Alamos--eight days, departs Dec. 21. Alamos, Mexico, is a beautiful city that has been declared a national monument. Participants travel via motor coach to Casa Grande, Ariz., then cross into Mexico to visit Hermosillo. Three nights are spent in Alamos with breakfast and dinner daily. Guided tours, barbecue, horse and buggy ride, museums and a pin~ata party and Christmas dinner is included. Price: $898 with all motor-coach transportation.

* Tennessee Waltz--eight days, departs Sept. 6. Fly to Nashville and tour Opryland USA, Chattanooga, Oakridge, Gatlinburg, Dollywood and Smoky Mountains Park. Many historic sites, museums, Tennessee Aquarium, Andrew Jackson's Hermitage. Price: $1,499.with air

* Smoky Mountain Thanksgiving--seven days, departs Nov. 24. Included on this tour are country shows, a lighting display with more than 2 million lights and animated displays, shopping time at factory-outlet stores and a Thanksgiving dinner. Price: $1,262 with air fare.

* Cajun Christmas in Louisiana--seven nights, departs Dec. 19. This includes New Orleans and other Louisiana cities and a dinner cruise. Price: 1,525 with air fare from Los Angeles.
