Agent Rebuked After Admitting to Killings

August 22, 1996|From Times Wire Reports

An Israeli Shin Bet agent who reportedly admitted that he crushed the skulls of two captured Palestinian bus hijackers with a rock in 1984 was given "a serious reprimand" for speaking to a reporter without permission. The prime minister's office issued a statement saying the agent now denies admitting to the killings. But the Yediot Aharonot newspaper stood by the report that sparked renewed criticism of the agency and also of the agent for going public with the information.
