1996 PREP PREVIEW / GIRLS' CROSS-COUNTRY

El Modena

September 06, 1996

Coaches: Tom Weber (22nd year) and John Ahearn (16th year).

1995: Fifth in CIF State Division III; Southern Section Division III-AA champions; Century League finals runners-up; 5-0 league dual-meet record.

Key returners: Heidi Bogue, Sr.; Karyn Booth, Jr.; Leslie Burton, Jr.; Jessica Dahlberg, Jr.; Katie Kennedy, Sr.; Kim Lacher, Jr.

Key newcomers: Lindsay Kustich, So.; Ana-Lauren Reiss, Fr.; Leaf Williams, Fr.

Outlook: The two-time defending Southern Section Division III-AA champions return their top six runners from a year ago. Weber and Ahearn have Burton, Dahlberg and Kennedy--as strong a top three as there isanywhere in the county--to count on. Dahlberg was the league runner-up a year ago and ran 2 minutes 15.69 seconds over 800 meters last track season. Burton and Kennedy were third and fifth in the league finals race and 16th and 29th in the state meet. Lacher, Bogue and Booth have vital varsity experience; Kustich, Reiss and Williams are newcomers who also figure strongly in the Vanguards' plans.
