Butler Sees Stars at Emmy Awards

September 10, 1996|BOB NIGHTENGALE

For at least one night, he was the other Brett Butler.

Butler, who never got to meet the famous actress with the same name, was overwhelmed at the Emmy Awards on Sunday night when he received a standing ovation by the crowd.

"I was blown away from the response," said Butler, who started his fourth consecutive game Monday as the center fielder. "I was kind of out of my element. Just to go there with those people is something I'll never forget."

Butler's biggest thrill, he said, was meeting Dick Clark. He had dinner with actor David Keith, and was awe-struck by Milton Berle and Carol Burnett.

The Dodgers activated right-handed reliever Darren Hall, and said they will at least entertain the notion of putting him on their playoff roster.

Hall, who underwent elbow surgery April 29, was placed on the 40-man roster when the Dodgers took third baseman Mike Blowers off the roster and placed him on the 60-day disabled list.

Catcher Mike Piazza, who has played in 13 consecutive games without a day off since Aug. 25, said that he likely will need one more game off before the season's conclusion. Russell originally said he would like Piazza to play every game, but the tentative plan now is to take Sunday off--a day game following the Dodger's night game on Saturday. . . . Dodger third baseman Tim Wallach said his 10-year-old son is fine after being hit on the head Saturday night when a TV monitor fell from above. . . . The Dodgers received permission to print playoff tickets and will place them on sale at noon Friday at Dodger Stadium. They can be ordered by phone at Ticketmaster, or purchased at Ticketmaster outlets. Division tickets are priced at $20, $15 and $10. Tickets for the league championship series and World Series will be released later.
