They Don't Call Bruins Gutty for Nothing

September 14, 1996

Hey, Bob Toledo, would the real you please stand up. After 57 minutes of great coaching, you did something I've never seen another Bruin coach do: You quit. Steve Buck is and will be a fine quarterback, but give him his game experience when you're beating Northeast Louisiana by 50 points, not when you still have a fighting chance against a team that could become national champion.

Thank goodness UCLA's players and coaches weren't as intimidated as their fans. These people were acting as if Knoxville was a hunting preserve and their football team was Bambi. Having swallowed the media's "gutty little Bruins" routine, they're now practically dancing in the streets over a 15-point defeat.
