Giddings Moves On at the SurfBout

September 19, 1996

SAN CLEMENTE — Although inconsistent conditions continued Wednesday, the third day of the Body Glove SurfBout at Lower Trestles, there still were some outstanding rides throughout the day.

In the first round of the main event, Newport Beach's David Giddings had one of the higher scores of the day with a 9.0, which helped him advance to the second round. Jason Bogle of Hawaii had the day's best individual (9.33) and overall score (25.0).

Among county competitors, Laguna Beach surfers Brandy Faber and Jon Rose had some outstanding rides on the four- to five-foot surf. Advancing was Laguna Niguel's Perry Faanes, Jason Senn of San Clemente, Peter Labrador of Fountain Valley and Cordell Miller of Costa Mesa. David Pinto, who performed well the last two days, was beat by Bogle and failed to advance.

The longboard events begin today followed by men's bodyboarding and the women's surf trials.
