COLLEGE FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : UCLA

Guidry Injury May Give Colbert Chance

September 25, 1996|JIM HODGES

Paul Guidry is off his crutches, but he is listed as doubtful for Saturday's game at Michigan, and it seems that Andy Colbert will start at cornerback for UCLA.

"I've been in the game on passing situations [he has had 42 plays so far on defense], but I look forward to starting," he said Tuesday.

Colbert, a senior from Pasadena, started five games in his sophomore season because of an injury to Carl Greenwood. And he has been the fifth defensive back in passing situations since his freshman season.

Guidry suffered an injured thigh against Northeast Louisiana Sept. 14.

Nose guard Jeff Ruckman, out since the second quarter of the Tennessee game because of a knee ligament sprain, returned to practice and could play at Michigan. . . . UCLA leads the Pacific 10 Conference in rushing defense, having given up an average of 57 yards a game. The Bruins are second in rushing offense at 206.5 yards a game.
