Fright-y Night's Gem Is Bewitched

HOWARD ROSENBERG / TELEVISION

November 01, 1996|HOWARD ROSENBERG

And tonight's truly swell and funny episode, written by Rachel Lipman and directed by Gail Mancuso, has Sabrina and Libby again vying for the sweet, but hapless Harvey, this time as a date for the school dance, with Libby seemingly getting the upper hand. What's a young witch to do?

"You can't make someone love you," one of her aunts advises, "but you can imprison them in a ring for not loving you."

Instead, Sabrina opts for having her aunts create a date for her out of Man Dough. His name is Chad Corey Dylan, appropriately, for the actor playing him is Brian Austin Green of Fox's "Beverly Hills, 90210." The feisty humor rolls in, cresting even higher when the aunts create beaus for themselves.

Coming soon to this delightful series is Raquel Welch in an amusing turn as Sabrina's third aunt, the hedonistic Vesta, who shows her niece around her pleasure dome that, besides the usual one bedroom down, three up, includes a Hall of Gratuitous Praise.

Yes, no serial killers here. As for "Millennium," the E string still needs tuning.

* "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" airs at 9 p.m. Fridays on ABC. "Millennium" airs at 9 p.m. Fridays on Fox.
