VALLEY NEWSWATCH: THE WEEK IN REVIEW

November 02, 1996|John M. Glionna

Walking Papers

It was a week of highs and lows for the firefighters burned during the Calabasas-Malibu blaze. They were recovering at the Grossman Burn Center in Sherman Oaks. But they got a special service medal from Gov. Pete Wilson for their heroism. On Sunday, Glendale Firefighter Scott French and L.A.'s Ross Torstenbo will leave the burn center after a 12:30 p.m. ceremony. . . . Glendale's William Jensen remains hospitalized in critical condition.

The Week Ahead

Election day is Tuesday, of course. . . . But before that, hundreds of janitors, nurses, actors and airport mechanics are due to gather in Burbank Monday as their various unions stage a "Get Out the Vote" rally. . . . "We have different jobs, but we stand united," said Ben Monterroso, deputy trustee of the Service Employees International Union Local 399. "There are issues being decided that affect all of us." The 10 a.m. rally will be held at 2600 Victory Blvd.
