Jeff Engilman has had at least one 1,000-yard rusher each season at Sylmar since he became the Spartans' coach in 1987, but the streak is in serious jeopardy. With only two games remaining in the regular season (and an unknown number of playoff games), Donald Carpenter needs 440 yards to hit 1,000.

Will the streak reach 10 seasons? Engilman isn't holding his breath.

"I'm not gonna get it," he said. "It shows that my type of offense is not working very well [this year]. We don't have a breakaway runner."

Carpenter has 560 yards and 12 touchdowns in 85 carries; Errol Bowen has rushed for 411 yards and three touchdowns in 73 carries.
