Club Med Vacations With a Discount

November 10, 1996|HANK KOVELL

This winter and spring, seniors can receive discounts at four Club Med beach resorts in the Caribbean and Mexico. Travelers over 55 can receive a $150 discount off published weekly rates.

Prices at Club Med resorts are seasonal, so to determine the final price, guests should consult a free Club Med brochure. Air fare is not included in the prices. There is usually a surcharge for holiday periods and some dates are blacked out.

Free beer and wine are included with lunch and dinner for all Club Med vacations. In most locations, rooms have TVs and telephones.

A wide choice of activities is offered at no charge and varies with each resort but may include swimming, windsurfing, sailing, kayaking, snorkeling, tennis, bicycling, aerobics, volleyball, basketball, softball, soccer, Ping Pong, picnics and evening entertainment. Other activities and services are available for an extra fee, including scuba diving, massage, golf and deep-sea fishing. The following are the resorts that offer a $150 senior discount:

* Columbus Isle, Bahamas. This resort offers three miles of white beach. It is convenient for scuba diving with 35 nearby dive sites. The Columbus Isle resort has air-conditioned bungalows with mini-refrigerators. Weekly rates range from $1,100 to $1,750 before discount.

* Caravelle, Martinique. Situated on Grand-Terre, the Caribbean resort is surrounded by a coconut grove and gardens with five separate beaches and garden-front hotels. Rooms are air-conditioned and many have balconies. Weekly rates before the discount range from $825 to $1,560.

* Paradise Island, Bahamas. This spot is a short flight from Florida and is located on a crescent moon beach on the Atlantic Ocean and Nassau Harbor. The resort is on 21 acres and has tennis facilities and a gaming casino. Weekly rates before discount range from $860 to $1,540.

* Cancun, Mexico. The Club Med here is a Mayan-inspired village, tropical with white beaches and aqua seas, perfect for water sports. It has many nearby tourist attractions, including several of Mexico's famed Mayan ruins. Two- and three-story beach lodgings decorated in local Mexican design, many with balconies overlooking the sea or a lagoon. Weekly rates before discount range from $850 to $1,650.
