November 11, 1996|From Times Wire Reports

The caretaker government said it was preparing unspecified legal charges against former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto--ousted last week amid allegations of corruption--and her husband, Asif Ali Zardari. Interim Prime Minister Miraj Khalid, asked if the government was preparing charges against Bhutto, told reporters, "Yes, yes." Asked if they would include criminal charges, he said, "All kinds of charges." Striking back, Bhutto filed a petition in Lahore High Court claiming that Zardari is being illegally detained.
