After ending a seven-game losing streak to Air Force with a 23-7 victory over the Falcons, Army (9-0) vaulted to its first appearance in the top 25 since 1988. The Black Knights, who have games left against No. 19 Syracuse and Navy, are No. 22.

Federal investigators are looking into reports that Boston College players faced pressure from off-campus bookmakers this season regarding the point spread, the Boston Herald reported. . . . San Jose State, behind the passing tandem of Carl Dean and Dan O'Dell, defeated Hawaii, 38-17, in a Western Athletic Conference game Saturday night at Honolulu. The Spartans are 2-8 overall and 2-5 in the WAC. The Rainbows are 2-8 and 1-6.
