Horak, Donahue Roll in Marmonte Tennis

Returning finalists Helena Horak of Westlake High and Jennifer Donahue of Agoura easily advanced through the first two rounds of the Marmonte League girls' tennis individual tournament at North Ranch Country Club on Tuesday.

Horak will play Lyndsay Tadlock of Thousand Oaks and Donahue faces Mindy Gondrez of Simi Valley in the semifinals today at 10:45 a.m.

In doubles, Westlake twins Katy and Erin Smith advanced to the semifinals.


Kennedy d. Garfield, 15-0, 15-5, 15-12--Christel Price and Melissa Kuhn each had eight kills for the Golden Cougars (13-0) in the first round of the City Section 4-A Division playoffs at Kennedy.

Chatsworth d. Huntington Park 15-13, 15-8, 15-3--Jennifer Joseph had 16 kills for the Chancellors (9-4) in a4-A Division match at Chatsworth.

Sylmar d. L.A. CES, 15-1, 15-3, 15-0--Patty Mendoza led the Spartans (13-1) with 11 kills in a 3-A Division match at Sylmar.

Canoga Park d. Dorsey, 15-5, 15-6, 15-6--Joy Salamanca had eight aces and Janelle Balzer had seven aces and five kills for the Hunters (9-5) in 3-A Division match at Canoga Park.

Poly d. Belmont, 15-7, 15-7, 15-8--Gaby Gallardo and Edythe Seflin each had 11 kills to help the Parrots (8-6) sweep in a 3-A Division match at Poly.

Royal d. Quartz Hill, 15-0, 15-3, 15-5--Sisters Nikki and Courtney Guerra had 14 and six kills to lead the Highlanders (14-3) in the first round of the Southern Section Division I-AA playoffs at Royal.

Buena d. Pasadena, 15-4, 15-1, 15-2--Sarah Bavero had eight kills and Nicole Greathouse added five for the Bulldogs (11-6) in a Division I-A match at Buena.

Bell-Jeff d. Holy Family, 15-5, 15-8, 15-4--Jackie Johnson had nine kills for the Guards (12-5) in a Division IV-A wild-card match at Bell-Jeff.

Villanova Prep d. Viewpoint, 9-15, 15-2, 15-10, 15-6--Taryn Linder had nine kills and 11 assists, but the Patriots (16-2) were upset in a Division V-AA match at Viewpoint.

Highland d. Arroyo, 4-15, 15-11, 15-9, 15-11--Josie Wilson had 20 kills for the Bulldogs (11-4) in a Division II-A match at Highland.

Alemany d. Moorpark, 15-6, 15-12, 15-8--Stefanie Lapointe had 13 kills and Cheryl Sasadeusz added nine for the Indians in a Division III-AA wild-card match at Alemany. Casey Crandall had 33 assists.

Thousand Oaks d. Crescenta Valley, 15-13, 14-16, 15-2, 11-15, 15-1--Jenn Detmer had 20 kills and six blocks for the Lancers (9-7) in a Division I-A match at Thousand Oaks.
