White House to Change Legal Team

November 16, 1996|From Times Staff and Wire Reports

President Clinton is looking for replacements for the legal team that has helped him deal with the Whitewater tangle. The job has been handled for the last two years by associate White House counsel Jane Sherburne, who has dealt with Whitewater-related legal issues, and lawyer Mark D. Fabiani, who has handled thousands of press queries. Both are leaving and replacements are being sought. White House officials said talks are underway with prominent Democratic lawyer Lanny Davis to replace Fabiani in the job of putting an official imprint on Whitewater comment and handling damage control. It was not clear who was in line to replace Sherburne.
