November 16, 1996|Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA — The loss wasn't the worst news for the Philadelphia 76ers. An injury to their star rookie was.

Allen Iverson separated his shoulder Friday night in a 105-89 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Team surgeon Dr. Jack McPhilemy said Iverson, the top pick by Philadelphia in the draft, would be sidelined for at least one week, although Iverson himself said he could be back by Wednesday.

Iverson came out of the game with 6:16 remaining in the fourth quarter after colliding with Danny Ferry underneath the Cleveland basket. He stayed on the bench for a couple of minutes before leaving for the locker room.

He was taken to a hospital for X-rays.

Cleveland set a franchise record by holding an opponent under 100 points for the 14th game in a row, including six from last season.
