BELLFLOWER — Quarterback Joe Cordova found a wide-open Andrew Hill in the end zone for a 20-yard touchdown play with about three minutes left to give St. John Bosco a 13-12 victory over Trabuco Hills in the first round of the Southern Section Division I playoffs Friday.

The Braves (9-1-1) had been fairly ineffective in the game, but with 7:26 left, started a 10-play drive for the winning touchdown. A 42-yard screen pass to Eric Ayers on third and 21 kept the drive going.

Prior to that, Trabuco Hills (6-5) had held the Braves to 36 yards passing. Trabuco Hills had given up only 104 yards rushing yards on the muddy field.

After being shut out in the first half, St. John Bosco got a break when Jacob Negro blocked a Trabuco Hills' punt. Jason Camilleri recovered it at Trabuco Hills four-yard line to set up an Ayers' four-yard touchdown run and a 7-6 Bosco lead.

Trabuco Hills rallied back on a 10-play, 52-yard scoring drive to regain a 12-7 advantage. Quarterback Tom Lindow, who threw for 228 yards on 15 of 29 completions, capped the drive with a 17 yard-pass to Brandon Heaney.

Trabuco Hills' last minute drive ended when a running back option pass was incomplete with 1:38 remaining in the game.

Trabuco Hills had taken a 6-0 lead on a 43-yard touchdown pass from Lindow to Bill Ortiz.
