Poll voters might not think much of Cal State Northridge's football team, but Jeff Sagarin's computer does.

Northridge (7-4) is ranked 12th among Division I-AA teams in Sagarin's most recent rankings. The Matadors finished 26th in the I-AA poll of coaches and sports information directors.

Close: Nordhoff High's Russell Farrar rushed for 257 yards Friday against Fillmore, the third-best single-game performance in school history.

Josh Hawkins, The Times' 1994 Ventura County back of the year, holds the record with 271 yards. Hawkins plays for Hawaii.

NBA bankroll: Most of the bill for the Cal State Northridge men's basketball team's new locker room is being picked up by Lucious Harris, who played for Coach Bobby Braswell at Cleveland High and Long Beach State.

The cost will be between $10,000 and $20,000, Northridge Athletic Director Paul Bubb said.

Harris plays for the Philadelpha 76ers.

Up to date: The Northridge men's basketball media guide might have been late, but at least it's accurate.

In the opponents' section, UCLA's coach is listed as Steve Lavin. Meanwhile, UCLA's media guide has a grinning Jim Harrick on the cover.

Sometimes it pays to be last.
