Lounge Lizards

December 01, 1996|Steve Hochman

Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun" has already been polkacized by Weird Al Yankovic and given the space-age treatment on the recent "Moog Cookbook" album, and now it's going the Vegas lounge route via Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme. The pair has recorded it for "Lounge-a-Palooza," an album of unusual collaborations coming in spring from Hollywood Records.

Others featured include Polly Jean Harvey on the Was (Not Was) smoothie "Zaz Turned Blue" (originally sung by Mel Torme), a teaming of neo-lounge leaders Combustible Edison with patron saint Esquivel, a version of "Wichita Lineman" bringing Glen Campbell together with Michelle Shocked and Freddy Fender, and Jimmy Scott with Flea on "Love Will Keep Us Together."
