1996-1997 GIRLS' SOCCER PREVIEW | SIX TEAMS TO WATCH

Laguna Hills

December 05, 1996

Coach: Kevin Macare (seventh year).

1995-96: 20-3-3, 9-0-1 in the Pacific Coast League; won the league title and advanced to the second round of the Southern Section Division II tournament, where the Dolphins lost to Ocean View.

Key returners: Regina Harrison, defender, Sr.; Karine Inoue, forward, Sr.; Elizabeth Jones, midfielder, Jr.; Jenny Jurgemeyer, defender, Jr.; Stacy Roberts, midfielder, Sr.

Key newcomers: Vanessa Gillis, midfielder, Jr.; Megan Griffith, defender, So.; Lindsay Meyers, defender, So.; Diana Rocha, defender, So.; Brooke Thomas, midfielder, Jr.

Outlook: Inoue, a two-time most valuable player in the league and an all-county selection last season, broke her foot recently and is expected to be out much of the season. If she returns midway through league play, as expected, she could make an enormous impact almost immediately. The Hawks might struggle at first without her as they take the field with seven new starters. Roberts, an all-county selection last season and a three-time all-league selection, will have to provide the necessary leadership.
