Q: What is chia?

A: Tiny black chia seeds are gathered from a type of wild sage that grows in the Southwest and Mexico. The seeds have a very high protein content. Because they stick together, chia seeds cannot be sprouted in a conventional manner. They sprout readily, however, if moistened and placed on the surface of earthenware.
