Where the Wine Is

February 19, 1997|MATT KRAMER

It's well worth noting that Burton Anderson's extraordinary "The Wine Atlas of Italy" was recently reissued.

Originally published in 1990, this detailed book contains not only the best maps of all of Italy's vast vineyard area but also some of the most insightful observations on Italian wine to be found anywhere, in either Italian or English. Anderson, an American, has lived in Italy for decades. He's written on Italian wines extensively, and this book is his masterpiece.

As Italian wines have grown in popularity, reader inquiries about the availability of "The Wine Atlas of Italy" have increased, as its American publisher, Simon & Schuster, discontinued stocking it. Booksellers specializing in out-of-print wine books had standing orders for any used copies that came their way.

Finally, the original British publisher, Mitchell Beazley, decided to reprint. Antique Collectors' Club, a small American book distributor, has arranged to distribute it here. "The Wine Atlas of Italy" can be ordered through any bookstore or directly from Antique Collectors' Club (800-252-5231) for $40 plus $3.50 for shipping.
