March 04, 1997|BARBARA MURPHY

Interlink Electronics of Camarillo announced record fourth-quarter and annual results for the year ended Dec. 31, with net income tripling on a 26% revenue gain over the previous year.

Net income for 1996 was $515,000, or 12 cents per share, up from $150,000, or 4 cents per share, for 1995. Revenues for 1996 were $13.5 million.

The fourth-quarter results marked the company's seventh consecutive profitable quarter. Net income rose to $207,000, or 5 cents per share, compared with $14,000 and no share gain for the same quarter in 1995. Fourth-quarter revenues reached $4.1 million, a 41% increase over the fourth quarter of 1995 and an 18% increase over the third quarter of 1996.

Interlink's main product line, based on its computer pointing technology VersaPoint, achieved a 46% growth over 1995. Within that product line, the company's interactive remote controls segment achieved the most significant growth, representing more than 50% of total revenues in the fourth quarter compared with less than 30% of revenues in 1995.

"We accomplished our key goals for 1996," said E. Michael Thoben, Interlink chairman, chief executive officer and president. "First, we continued our dominance in the rapidly growing presentation remote controls market. Then our launch into the multimedia market was a true home run, signing with Toshiba late in the year."

Interlink's computer pointing devices include desktop mice, built-in keyboard pointing devices and hand-held remote controls with mouse functionality. The company maintains offices in Camarillo and Tokyo.
