* A reading group discussion of John Steinbeck's "East of Eden" will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Brindles Bookstore, 13721 Newport Ave., Tustin.

* Laurence Shames, author of "Virgin Heat," will sign at 1 p.m. Saturday at Book Carnival, 348 S. Tustin Ave., Orange.
