80 People Arrested as Police Raid Cockfight

MIAMI — Undercover detectives broke up an illegal cockfight on the outskirts of Miami and arrested 80 people, police said Monday.

The detectives watched the fight before launching the raid at a Dade County ranch Sunday. Those arrested were charged with attending the fight, animal baiting, gambling and cruelty to animals.

Cockfights are banned in most of the United States, and in Florida it is illegal to attend a fight as a spectator.
