Critic's Pick

'Nixon'

March 30, 1997|Kenneth Turan

It is in many ways an impressive, well-crafted piece of work. Serious and filled with good intentions though it is, this 1995 release lacks the one element writer--director Oliver Stone movies have rarely done without before, and that is pulsating excitement. Though heroic and impressive in some ways, Anthony Hopkins' (pictured) performance in the title role unfortunately feels wrong (Showtime Saturday at 8 p.m.).
