April 5: Class on vegetable gardening and another on growing orchids, both at 10 a.m., at Fullerton Arboretum, 1900 Associated Road, Fullerton; (714) 773-3404. Each costs $7.

April 5-6: Herb Festival, with talks and demonstrations and plants for sale, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., at Quail Botanical Gardens, 230 Quail Gardens Drive, Encinitas; (619) 436-3036. Adults, $3, children 5-12, $1.50.

April 5-6: Sale of everything from orchids to garlic, including many drought-resistant plants, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., with tours of the Victorian house each day from noon-3:30 p.m., at Heritage House, 8193 Magnolia Ave., Riverside; (909) 782-5273. Free.
