Critic's Pick

'The Lion King'

April 06, 1997|Kenneth Turan

While in many ways a worthy successor to "Beauty and the Beast" and "Aladdin," this 1994 release is the first to have a core story noticeably less involving than its peripheral characters--voiced by the likes of Whoopi Goldberg and Cheech Marin. A father-son relationship, and the parallel tale of a young man's growth to adulthood, is the film's central story (Disney Saturday at 7 p.m.).
