Patricia Marie McCaffrey Soyster, an Oxnard resident who volunteered as a docent at the Channel Islands Maritime Museum, died in her sleep Thursday. She was 65.
Soyster was born Aug. 12, 1931, in Jersey City, N.J. In the 1950s, she moved with her husband to Anaheim, where the couple raised a family.
After a divorce in 1985, Soyster moved to Oxnard. At the time of her move, the Channel Islands Maritime Museum was under construction, and Soyster volunteered to become a docent. She also worked as a volunteer at a local library, teaching adults with reading disabilities.
"She was very proper, very proud, very old-school," said her daughter, Donna Lynne Armstrong of Charlottesville, Va. "She was very well liked and had a wide circle of friends."
In addition to Armstrong, Soyster is survived by her granddaughters, Kati Marie, Kari Lee and Amanda Lyn, also of Virginia.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Oakwood Memorial Park, located at 22601 Lassen St. in Chatsworth, with the Rev. Margie A. Olson presiding. Arrangements are being handled by Crawford Mortuary in Northridge.
