Cystic Fibrosis Test for Couples Urged

Nation IN BRIEF : MARYLAND

April 17, 1997|From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A panel of scientists, social workers and ethicists recommended that any couples expecting a child or planning a pregnancy be offered testing for the cystic fibrosis gene. The panel, convened by the National Institutes of Health, also recommended tests for people with family histories of the disease and the partners of cystic fibrosis victims.
