May 01, 1997

The U.S. Air Force said it has approved resuming commercial Delta-2 rocket launches by McDonnell Douglas Corp. from Vandenberg Air Force Base and Cape Canaveral Air Station. Approval by the Air Force Space Command followed safety steps taken after the failure of a Delta-2 launched from Cape Canaveral on Jan. 17. The next commercial launch, set for Friday at Vandenberg, is set to carry five satellites for cellular telephone communications for Iridium Inc.
