RESEDA — A burglary suspect who ran off while still handcuffed as officers were taking him into the Los Angeles Police Department's West Valley station for booking was recaptured about three hours later in the neighborhood, according to authorities.
The suspect was identified as Deverrin Jackson, 29, of Chatsworth, according to LAPD spokesman Don Cox.
Jackson took off running at about 4 p.m. as police officers were leading him into the station at 19020 Vanowen St., police said. About 50 officers aided by dogs searched several blocks in the neighborhood north of Vanowen and east of Wilbur Avenue--including residents' backyards. Residents were warned to remain inside.
The officers found Jackson at about 7:15 p.m., hiding in a trash can near Wystone Avenue and Bassett Street, Cox said.
