Need a rough guide in portion control? Make a fist. The average size of an adult fist is roughly the size of a half cup. A quarter cup of cottage cheese? The size of a golf ball. An ounce of cheese? Think of a ping pong ball. A 3-ounce portion of meat? Try a deck of cards or an audiocassette tape. A 4-ounce portion of fish? About like your sunglasses case.
