My Favorite Weekend

Julia Sweeney, whose autobiographical play "God Said Ha!" is now available on CD

Friday: There are two Meccas in Hollywood, each a triumvirate: 1. Virgin Megastore/Sunset 5 Theatres/Wolfgang Puck or 2. Tower Records/Tower Classical/Book Soup. It's always a tossup, the deciding factor being whether you want to see a movie or buy some books.

Saturday: I can't miss "Car Talk" on 89.3 KPCC at 9 a.m. Then spinning class at Todd Tramps or yoga at the Yoga Center in Larchmont. I love to shop along Larchmont and eat at Prado.

Gardening: I just try to keep up with the weeds and they are winning. I'm the only homeowner on my block who mows her own lawn. I try to have velcro curlers in my hair when I do it, just to create a whole crazy look. I also like to stand outside with the hose and sprinkle the flowers by hand and stare at the cars going by. I'm practicing for retirement.

Sunday mornings: I used to go to Mass on Sunday mornings. But a few years ago I started listening to Harry Shearer at 10 a.m. on 89.9 KCRW, and frankly, he has more interesting things to say. I guess Harry Shearer has become my own personal God.

Sunday afternoon: At 4 p.m. I go into a panic about not having enough material to perform at the Uncabaret that night. That's this alternative comedy venue at LunaPark in West Hollywood. The Uncab's kind of my hangout. Plus, the food at LunaPark is excellent.
