ORANGE — After staging an incredible comeback in the semifinals, Loara's Tuan Nguyen and Sharon Myung went on to win the Southern Section Mixed Doubles championship Thursday night at the Orange County Badminton Club.

Top-seeded Nguyen and Myung, quickly put away West Covina's Cong Phung and Tammy Phan in the title match, 15-10, 17-14, after overcoming a 14-9 deficit in the final game of their semifinal match against unseeded Long Beach Poly's Thanh Vo and Alaine Martinez.

After losing the first game of the semifinal 15-4, Nguyen and Myung rallied in the second game with a 15-13 victory. Down, 8-1, in the final game, Nguyen and Myung persevered, facing numerous match points, before grabbing the victory, 17-14.

In the championship match, Nguyen and Myung, the Empire League champions, won the first game on a slam by Nguyen into the back corner of the court. Taking a 10-3 lead in the second game, Vo and Martinez rallied and tied the score, 14-14. Nguyen then served out the game, picking up three quick points and the title for Loara.
