Regatta to Bring Most U.S. Citizens Since '91

May 26, 1997|From Times Wire Reports

About 70 small boats carrying U.S. citizens tied up at the Hemingway Marina as part of a Tampa-to-Havana regatta, an event that was held annually prior to the 1959 Cuban revolution. About 50 or 60 boats with U.S. crews and passengers are expected today and Tuesday to join those already here. At least 500 Americans are expected to reach Havana over the next few days, the greatest influx of U.S. citizens for a single event since the Pan American Games in 1991.
