Neighboring Nations Press for Coup's End

June 01, 1997|From Times Wire Reports

Nigerian troops sent to support forces loyal to the government stepped up their presence, protecting a bridge that leads to a waterfront hotel where U.S. military helicopters landed Friday to evacuate hundreds of foreigners. Nigeria has said it will use force to overturn the coup if diplomatic efforts fail.
