When the Southern Section softball finals begin Friday at Mayfair Park in Lakewood, teams from Temecula Linfield, Santa Maria Righetti and Irvine Woodbridge will be trying to tie a section record for titles with five. Huntington Beach Marina and Santa Maria St. Joseph share the record.

Two games are scheduled for Friday and four Saturday. A look at the matchups:

Division I, Santa Ana Foothill (29-2) vs. Upland (28-5): Top-seeded Foothill has won 14 games in a row, including a 1-0 victory over defending champion Santa Ana Mater Dei on Tuesday. The Knights, who last won a title in 1992, swept a doubleheader from Upland earlier this season.

Division II, Irvine Woodbridge (33-2) vs. Santa Maria Righetti (33-2): The winner ties a section record with five titles. Top-seeded Woodbridge, which lost to Saugus in the final last year, has won 28 games in a row since an early season loss to Foothill.

Division III, Garden Grove Pacifica (29-1) vs. Glendora St. Lucy's (25-7): Pacifica, which has never won a section title, is ranked No. 1 in the state and in the nation by the National Fastpitch Coaches' Assn. St. Lucy's lineup includes four seniors who have secured Division I scholarships.

Division IV, Santa Fe Springs St. Paul (26-7) vs. West Covina South Hills (21-9): Unseeded South Hills defeated St. Paul, 1-0, in a tournament game in March.

Division V, Lancaster Paraclete (27-3) vs. Santa Ana Calvary Chapel (26-5): Fourth-seeded Paraclete is 0-5 in title games.

Division VI, Temecula Linfield (26-3) vs. Boron (24-2): Top-seeded Linfield is making its fifth consecutive championship game appearance, having won it all in 1994 and '95. Second-seeded Boron was eliminated in the semifinals the last four years.
